• Material: It is almost exclusively woven from synthetic fibers like nylon or polyester.
• High Breathability: The open, hexagonal net structure means the fabric is entirely porous. Even when densely layered into a thick pancake tutu, air passes through it freely, which prevents the structural layers from trapping body heat.
• Sheerness and Optical Blending: A single layer of stiff tulle is entirely sheer. However, because it is so thin, designers often layer different colors of tulle on top of one another to create optical illusions, custom colors, or a shimmering moiré effect as the hexagonal grids overlap.
• Extreme Weight-to-Volume Ratio: Despite its rigid structure and ability to support heavy over-skirts, stiff tulle is practically weightless. A massive, floor-length petticoat made of 20 yards of stiff tulle will weigh only a few ounces, allowing for dramatic silhouettes without exhausting the wearer.
