Silk doupion is a crisp, highly lustrous, medium-weight silk fabric known for its distinctively irregular, slubbed texture. It is considered one of the most popular and versatile types of silk, bridging the gap between elegant formalwear and rustic, organic charm.
- The "Slubbed" Texture: Because the intertwined double-cocoon threads cannot be smoothly separated, the resulting yarn has natural bumps and irregularities known as "slubs". These are woven into the weft (crosswise grain) of the fabric, giving it a rustic, tactile surface.
- Crisp Body: Unlike fluid silks like charmeuse or chiffon, doupion is stiff and holds its shape exceptionally well. It doesn't drape clingy; rather, it creates structural folds and volume.
- Sewing Stability: It is highly favoured by tailors and designers because it doesn't stretch, slide, or "creep" while being cut or sewn.
- Iridescence (Shot Silk): Doupion is incredibly receptive to dye. Weavers frequently use one colour of thread for the warp (lengthwise) and a distinctly different colour for the weft. This creates a stunning two-tone, iridescent effect where the fabric appears to change colours as it moves in the light.
- Quantity in cart represents meters. E.g., '3' in quantity means 3 meters of fabric.
- At Galedi Fabrics, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality materials. Due to the custom nature of our fabric sales (cut to your specified length), our general policy is that all fabric sales are final and non-refundable.
